The session known as 'Stepping Forward' is a free education workshop from Family Drug Support (FDS) for families, friends and workers delivering useful information and support to those supporting someone using alcohol and other drugs.
According to Leanne Walding, five participants have registered thus far but they would like to get at least 10.
There are three sessions covering:
- Stages of change for users and families- what goes on
- Effective communication- what works and what doesn't
- Alcohol and other drugs information
"We want to be a gateway for outreach programs to use our facilities, as this is an environment that people are comfortable in," she said.
According to Ms Walding, the aim of getting these outreach programs to come to Lithgow is to create a hub environment.
"We rely on outreach programs for our residents because they have the resources and we have the place to host and promote these programs," she said.
Lithgow lacks venues for these sessions to take place but luckily LINC has small meeting rooms, a hall and one on one rooms for clients, Ms Walding said.

"We want to become a space where outreach facilities feel comfortable reaching out to us about a collaboration," she said.

Volunteers
LINC is currently looking for more volunteers to join their ranks, with many different positions available.
"We have a range of services that people can volunteer in," Ms Walding said.
Positions are available in packing, LINC reception, meals on wheels, mowing, the second bite, gardening, Flo's kitchen, LINC's shopping bus, and more.
These services are also available for Lithgow's senior citizens to attend.
"Anyone over the age of 65 who is registered with MyAgeCare is able to attend," said
The $5 LINC shopping bus takes place every second Monday for an accompanied shopping trip. Pick up is from 10am, with the first stop being Lithgow Valley Plaza, and a special trip can be made to Aldi before residents are taken home.
Flo's kitchen is a daytime activity held at LINC three Tuesday's of each month from 10.30 to 12.30pm. They serve tea, coffee, soup, toasted sandwiches, raisin toast and sweets.
