This is the first formal opening for the museum in 2019.
The Blue Mountains Historical Society is inviting residents to come along and view the new items on display from their recently accessioned Florence Evelyn Moore Collection.
The Sun Room Gallery has a new exhibition to greet the new year, An Aerial Disaster for John Britty North.
The exhibition displays artefacts related to the collapse of the Bleichert Aerial Ropeway at Katoomba in 1889 and January 1890.
These artefacts are largely from the Private Collection of Philip Hammon.
Photographs, from both the Philip Hammon Collection and the Blue Mountains Historical Society, display the rope way and surrounds at the time of operation in the late 1800s.
If the weather holds up it will ensure the ever-popular garden stall is open.
Devonshire teas and soup will be available in the Research Centre.
Entry charges to Tarella are $5 for adults and $2 for children.
Entry to the exhibition is free with entry to Tarella.
Please note that the Historical Society can only accept cash as they have no card facilities.
