Now that these upgrades are complete the community at Glen Alice is now more ready than ever to deal with crisis situations.
At that stage the community had endured 88 fires over the past three years, highlighting the incredibly vulnerable area that has only one road in and out of the valley.
President of the Glen Alice Community Hall Bruce Richardson said the funding helped the hall generate an income to sustain ongoing maintenance and running costs of the hall.
“In addition to helping us provide a base for the community and emergency services during times of emergency and distress, the upgrades now allow us to rent the hall for special occasions and explore the option of serving coffee to tourists over the weekend,” he said.

“The income generated will enable us to continue ongoing maintenance and pay energy bills.”
Mr Toole said it was great to see such a strong and resilient community get support for such an important piece of infrastructure in the area and was pleased to announce the upgrades were now complete.
“This is an area that is very susceptible to fires and fire damage, and we needed to ensure the emergency crews that help protect this community have a place to rest, recharge and regroup in times of need.”
Mr Toole said the funding had gone towards the purchase and installation of a new commercial kitchen, deck, disabled access, reverse cycle air conditioning and some landscaping.
