While hot conditions are always expected this time of the year, the Bureau of Meteorology (BoM) said the duration of the hot spell was unusual.
The temperature is predicted to get hotter in coming days, with severe to extreme heatwave conditions as the week progresses.
From Saturday, however, the BoM said extreme heatwave conditions will be present over much of the south-east of Australia.
The mercury will soar to the early 40s from Thursday to Saturday in Young, it should also reach 40 in Parkes on Friday.
In Dubbo, Forbes and Wellington temperatures are predicted to reach the high 30s until the end of the week; while it will hover around the mid 30s in Bathurst, Mudgee, Lithgow and Oberon.
Orange, however, will be the coolest spot to be this week, with the mercury predicted to only reach in the early 30s.
