The two day carnival will be held on February 9 and 10 at the JM Robson Aquatic Centre and is expected to bring many visitors into the town.
With 26 clubs and over 300 swimmers from across the Central West and Blue Mountains, Lithgow Swimming Club vice president Pete Evans said he looked forward to the two day carnival bringing money into the town.
“It's a regional carnival so there will be a lot of people, which means visitors spending money on accommodation, food, drinks and hopefully spending time in our retail stores,” he said.
Mr Evans also said Lithgow hosted the carnival two years ago.
“It gets shared around the region and this year Lithgow decided to put its hand up again.
“It’s good for the swim club to have swimmers in our hometown, spending money in town, keeping it local and we don’t have to travel anywhere,” he said.
Mr Evans also said people complimented Lithgow’s pool.
“People like our pool, it’s a nice facility and that makes them look even more forward to coming,” he said.
Swimmers from around the region including Glenbrook, Cowra, Grenfell, Forbes, Orange and Bathurst will compete at the championships looking to set state and country qualifying times.
“These championships also act as heats for the Speedo sprint series with all regions holding their heats on the same weekend and finals to be held at Homebush in March,” Mr Evans said.
He also said the championships acted as a selection for the Mountains and Plains team to represent the region at the James Brophy invitation carnival held at the Australian Institute of Sport in March.
