Lachlan Sharp spoke to the Lithgow Mercury about his love for hockey and why he enjoys it so much.
Sharp first got into hockey at the age of four, following in the footsteps of his parents and siblings.
“By playing it non stop as a kid, whether it was inside or outside, I came to love hockey.
“I guess when you do something all the time and enjoy doing it, you end up loving it and that’s definitely how I feel,” Sharp said.
Sharp said it was always an ultimate goal of his to represent Australia and his parents had been a massive influence when it came to that.
“They use to take me down to hockey when I was younger pretty much every day of the week and travel back and forth to Sydney two to three times a week when I was a teenager.
“It takes a lot of hard work and sacrifice, simple as that,” Sharp said.
Sharp said his supportive family and the steps they allowed him to take made him the person he was today.
“I am so grateful I have such a supportive family who ultimately led me to represent my country,” Sharp said.
From being that small town kid with big dreams Sharp is now living them, playing for the Kookaburras and residing in Perth.
“Playing for your country is an amazing feeling and not one many people get to experience, so for me it’s extremely special,” Sharp said.
He also said if he wanted something bad enough he would do whatever it took to get there.
“The hard work doesn’t stop once you make a national side, it’s only the beginning,” he said.
