Lithgow High School graduate Ben Weller’s work has been selected among “exemplary” major projects from HSC design and technology.
Ben was inspired to create a Butsudan, a shine found in temples and homes in Japanese Buddhist cultures, by his dad’s faith.
In displaying his work, Ben included an explanation of the Butsudan’s purpose. He said the wooden cabinet includes crafted doors to enclose and protect a Gohonzon or religious icon, “typically a statue or painting, or a calligraphic mandala scroll.
Earlier this year, Lithgow High School Izaac Van Der Velden had his buggy, created for the HSC in automotive studies, showcased in the Shape 2017 exhibition.
Shape 2018 opens at the Powerhouse Museum, Museum of Applied Arts and Sciences on February 22, 2019 and closes on May 5, 2019.
