Valley 2 finished on a total of nine runs on Saturday, November 10 in their match against La Salle 1.
But it does not come close to the lowest recorded innings score, as former district cricketer Chris Goodsell was keen to share with us.
On October 24, 1981, his third grade team, known as the ‘Hotshots’ took on Newnes at Glanmire 3. Goodsell recalled that this Newnes team was made up of inmates at the prison camp then in operation.
Newnes went into bat first, making a total of 25. Hotshots then took the pitch, putting on 349 runs.
In Newnes' second innings, the team was all out for 0.
That’s right – zero.
Goodsell said the Newnes team was keen to extend their innings and stay out later in the evening, but the guards refused to bat second time around. Their scores are recorded as ‘0 – refused to bat’.
