Year 5/6 teacher Mrs Marie Ellery said the trip was for the students to learn more about the nations capital and government.
“They got to visit various venues including Regatta Point, Cockington Green, The War Memorial, Australian Institute of Sport, Old Parliament House, Parliament House, The National Museum and Questicon,” she said.
She also said while at The War Memorial the students visited the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier.
“They had the honor of laying a wreath at the Remembrance Service,” she said.
During the students visit to Parliament House they observed Question Time in the House of Representatives.
“They took part in role plays and were also visited by our Federal Member of Calare Andrew Gee, he invited questions from the children,” Mrs Ellery said.
Mrs Ellery said the pupils were able to ask questions about the practical side of Mr Gee’s job as well as personal questions about how he felt when giving his maiden speech in Parliament.
”He engaged the children with his answers and presented them with a memento of the visit to Parliament House,” she said,
Calare MP Andrew Gee said he enjoyed providing some insight on the Parliament, his role as an MP and answering their interesting questions.
“They impressed me with their knowledge of how Parliament works, and you never know we could one day see a Prime Minister who was once a student of Zig Zag Public,” he said.
