The connection point that will take trains off the main Western Rail corridor onto the loop has already been completed at Georges Plains.
This forms part of the NSW Government’s investment of $21.5 million to build two new loops between Lithgow and Blayney and to plan for further vital work along the Main Western Rail corridor.
The two loops will ensure the nine million tonnes of freight transported annually along the western corridor moves more efficiently, reducing the cost of getting export freight to port and domestic freight to markets.
The project involves building about 3.6 kilometres of new track and associated signalling infrastructure to accommodate the passing of trains up to 1.5km in length.
Oberon skate park
THE first sod has been turned to mark the start of Oberon’s new skate park. The NSW Government is funding the project thanks to a $500,000 grant to Oberon Shire Council.
The facility will cater for skaters of all ages and abilities and will include a beginner level quarter pipe, grind ledges, grind rails around the edges of an intermediate to advanced level bowl, landscaping, installation of street furniture, gable roof shelters and lighting, which are all amenities needed to make the skate park safe and comfortable for skaters and spectators alike.
Once built, I’ll have a go!
In other news, the younger skaters of Bathurst will soon see an addition to their skate park so that they too can enjoy the facility thanks to $300,000 from the NSW Government.

Working together
NSW Government committed nearly $90 million for new prevention initiatives as part of this year's Mental Health Month: working together to prevent suicide.
I met with Vanessa Delaney from the Centre for Rural and Remote Mental Health and discussed the invaluable 'Glove Box Guide to Mental Health' magazine, which was distributed through The Land earlier this month.
It is encouraging to see so many people come together on this important issue.

Picnic shelter upgrade for Edith reserve
Locals will benefit from an upgrade to the picnic area of Edith Recreation Reserve thanks to a $22,000 NSW Government Crown Reserve Improvement Fund grant.
This grant will see walls, windows and doors installed on the current shelter. A water tank will also be installed to collect rainwater.
The reserve and shelter is already popular with local families and visitors for community events and functions.
