Pockets have done it again they played really well to defeat defending Premiers Red Sox 5–2 and they now move off the bottom of the table leaving Red Sox languishing last. After their shock defeat to Pockets last week Tall Timbers bounced back to inflict a 5–2 result against Miscues. Jiggers currently in first placed played second placed Helmets and though Jiggers won 5–2 they only just got the aggregate by five points.
C & W Printing Red Sox versus Williams and Sons Butchery Pockets
John Lyons versus Shane Eagle: Eagle has settled well into the position of being first time captain and his win column is more is more than his loss though he was up against the more experienced campaigner in Lyons. Lyons is in the unusual position having only two victories thus far. Eagle was at his best potting like a demon and was racking up a heap of points which included a 14 break and in the meantime was leaving nothing for Lyons to attack. Lyons tried his hardest though the game and the 28 start he was chasing was against him as Eagle cruised to very good 89–44 win.
Jeff Stait versus Brad Preston: Stait last comp was easily the form player and this time has had a disjointed start running at 50 per cent wins/losses. Preston has had a shocking start and finally recorded his first win last game and hopefully has now turned the corner and when these two played in the first round Stait won by 39 points. With 34 start Preston was off and away scoring easily early in the game pulling away from Stait. Stait was also potting well and even though way behind was well focused. Preston for some reason hit the wall and that was when Stait made his move and come into his own as he not only caught the deficit he put some points in between himself and Preston to win 75–57.
Leo Keeley versus Lawrence Creasy: Keeley being a nonagenarian still plays a mean game of snooker is off a single figure handicap and had to give Creasy 21 start. Creasy has been playing well for his new team and though he had a good start on Keeley he would have play well as Keeley relies on a lot of safety play forcing his opponent to make mistakes. This was a good even game with both getting away with some lucky shots and Keeley made inroads to the scoreline. Creasy made a 22 break pushing ahead the score and it showed how good Keeley played Creasy had to pot the pink and black to win 81–75.
Trevor Cameron versus Brett Bradley: A difference in the stats as Cameron has played three games for two wins and Bender has won the same amount but has played seven games. Cameron started to chase the 22 points and when he caught that up the games was on. It was very even until the end and Cameron played a cracker of a shot on the black to win 61–54.
Rod Denley versus Kyal Furbank: Denley having won two games was in theory in better form than Furbank who was searching for his first win. Denley was like a stunned mullet he just could not get a start no matter what he did. Furbank for this game at least hit form and it was a walk over as sliced Denley to shreds to win 81–21.
Tom Gaynor versus Steve Hewitt: After winning his first four games Gaynor has lost all since then and Hewitt has been quietly going about his business losing three games and it going under the radar. This game was fairly scratchy from both players and Hewitt was nailing the long shots with consistency. Gaynor took a while to get going and he caught up on the colours but it was too late as Hewitt had the game wrapped up 65–50. Players of the match, Shane Eagle and Leo Keeley.
Carpet One Tall Timbers versus Hunter Mining Methods Miscues
Howard Fisher versus Ritchie Bilby: Since making his comeback Fisher has won three games and he has been close to winning on a couple of occasions hence his improvement. Bilby has had a mixed start winning two and losing two and this should be a game of open snooker. This was how the game panned out it was entertaining with a few mistakes and no big breaks. In the end Bilby put in a good effort to win 52–43.
Aaron Vandermeer versus Garry Bender: Vandermeer is another who has a 50 per cent record and Bender had a couple of wins early in the comp but since then has suffered defeat regularly. Their form was consistent with the result of the game as Vandermeer was potting very well and was making Bender work for whatever points he scored. Vandermeer took control and was not headed as he won 54–28.
Frank Wawn versus Matt Tattersall: Both not at their best though in the first round Tattersall beat Wawn by 45 so Wawn had retribution in mind. This is what happened as Wawn was on the board early and scoring at will which included a 17 break and whilst Tattersall played some good shots it few and far between as Wawn extracted his revenge 67–37.
Michael McCosker versus Jeff Martin: McCosker has been cruising along nicely winning most of games and Martin after a return to snooker has won three games and two games he lost was by a black ball. Another good game as the score would reflect as both played well and each never got a chance to get too far ahead. Another thing with this comp Mitchsuvius has not been seen as McCosker has been mainly calm and this showed as won 58–50 in a fairly close game.
Maurie Smith versus Allan Piggott: Smith has not been setting the world alight though he has finally strung two wins together and Piggott has been the model of consistency with only losing one game. A fairly close game right until the end as both put everything on the line. Smith had his chances but it was Piggott who continued his winning ways 58–46.
Keith Morris versus Dennis Goodwin: Both players have had a similar start as Goodwin had four weeks off and came back and won his last two games and Morris had five weeks and came back and won last week both must have needed the break. Morris was just too good as he was potting well and when he scored a 16 break he was not going to lose. Goodwin did his best though Morris surged ahead to win 72–32. Players of the match, Aaron Vandermeer and Ritchie Bilby.
Welch’s Highway Smash Repairs Jiggers versus Lithgow Valley Storage Helmets
Trent Lewis versus Robert Farnsworth: Both are having great comps with Lewis with one loss and Farnsworth unbeaten winning all eight games thus far. Lewis in the last two years has bought his handicap down by 20 points and still gets bagged about jagging some shots but he is consistent and much improved. Farnsworth has always been a good player it is now he has been playing to his best. This was a good game with both going for their shots and Lewis inflicted a 57–48 result.
Justin Nelson versus RW Farnsworth: Nelson has been solid this comp only losing two games and on some rare occasion not at his best but still winning. Farnsworth has continued the form from last comp and he like Nelson has lost two games. Nelson played well all game and was making it hard for Farnsworth to a get shot in. Nelson made a few good breaks and he just out classed Farnsworth 69–34.
Wade Barrington versus Ian Bulkeley: Barrington has won six and lost one and has been travelling nicely improving every game and Bulkeley has also been going good with five wins and two losses. Bulkeley made short work of the 24 start Barrington had with breaks of 22, 20 and 19 as he was almost unstoppable. Barrington was shocked at first but settled down to some good shots though he really was not in the hunt as Bulkeley easily won 79–57.
Greg Sutton versus Logan Spice: Until last week Sutton was having a terrible comp easily getting beaten every week and finally put it all together to turn the corner he hoped. Spice has not been playing a lot as he played three early games for one win and has not played for three weeks so this was lined up for a close game. This was not the case as Spice started out potting all in front of him and Sutton gave him over 20 points in fouls early on. Spice hit a wall then Sutton settled down and played some good shots though that only lasted a blink of an eye. Spice came home strong and humiliated Sutton 94–45.
Troy Clarke versus Dillan McBey: Clarke has hit form his last two games and McBey have been playing well with just the one loss and six solid wins. Clarke had a 27 start and early on was potting some good shots and poor McBey could not do anything right missing some easy shots and giving Clarke points in fouls. McBey was shattered early and once he got over this he played some very good shots and was making inroads but unfortunately Clarke did the damage early and came away with a 74–51 win.
David Adams versus Dallas Thurlow: It has been years since Adams has started a comp so well he has won five and lost two and has been using his handicap well. Thurlow did not start until week four of the comp and then he played Adams and won easily by 24 points. Adams remembered this and was ready as he quickly was scoring from the opening break. Thurlow was all at sea early and gave Adams 20 points in fouls. Adams stopped scoring and that was when Thurlow settled down and was playing well catching the deficit and with two balls left on the table he needed both to win. Adams came out of his slump potted a good pink to take the game from a really concerted effort from Thurlow 56–47. Players of the match, Justin Nelson and David Adams.
Point score: Jiggers 42, Helmets 38, Tall Timbers and Miscues 29, Pockets 26, Red Sox 25
Regal: A.Piggott, R.Farnsworth, T.Lewis, J.Nelson, D.McBey, I.Bulkeley, W.Barrington, D.Adams
