It appears to have occurred on Sunday night, August 26 or Monday morning, August 27.
The old house was vacant and no one was injured in the blaze.
At this stage it is assumed the fire was started by squatters.
According to Lithgow Fire and Rescue, the fire would have been visible to Hassans Wall Road but with the fog and smoke from people’s fire places no one would have noticed.
If anyone witnessed the fire or saw something that could help investigations into the incident, contact Lithgow Police.
