The ten girls have travelled to Australia to take part in a two-week homestay program, living with the families of La Salle students. 

“It’s the first time they have been to Australia, and it’s my first time too,” English teacher Keisuke Komuro said. 

“They’ve come because they want to learn about Australia and are interested in different cultures. 

“We hope to see the big nature of Australia and experience a different culture to Japan.” 

Mr Komuro said he hoped his students would be able to find similarities with their homestay buddies. 

“I hope they talk and share many things, they are the same generation.” 

The visitors will have a fortnight to experience life in Australia, including an excursion to Featherdale Wildlife Park and a sight-seeing trip in Sydney. 

Toke High School’s principal will arrive in Lithgow next week to sign a sister-school agreement at a special assembly held on Friday. 

Students from the Toke High School also visited La Salle in August last year. 

Mr Komuro said he had already noticed some differences between Lithgow and his hometown. Toke High School is located in the Chiba prefecture near Tokyo. 

“In Australia, everyone who has passed us by is very friendly and they want to talk to us.

“Also the food is very different!” he said.
