“We have had some second prizes but this is the biggest,” Jimmy said.
“It’s the biggest win in Lithgow and the Blue Mountains,” Helen said.
“Now we have a lucky shop.”
The Newsagency’s owner, Anna Nguyen, received a phone call last night from Oz Lotto informing her that one of her shop’s customers had won the $35 million windfall.
“We don’t know who it is and we don’t know when we sold it,” Helen said.
“But we know our customers.”
Oz Lotto described the winning entrant, who has requested to remain anonymous, as a “hardworking blue-collar Lithgow man in his 50s”.
“Congratulations. You deserve it!” Jimmy said.
The man was unaware of his win until he was also called by Oz Lotto after the draw last night.
“Oh fair dinkum? You’re kidding?! That is the best news I’ve had in a long time. Hallelujah!” he was quoted as saying when he found out.
He told Oz Lotto that he would be using the money to “help the kids out” and to fast-track his retirement.
On Tuesday morning, Lotto players Emma Davis and Steph Bryant visited Top End Newsagency to check their winnings.
Ms Bryant said she buys a ticket once a month from the Lithgow store.
“I entered the draw at the last-minute yesterday,” she said.
“I won $16!”
“I won 77 cents,” Ms Davis said.
The pair said they were excited for the mystery $35 million winner.
“How wonderful it was in Lithgow!” Ms Davis said.
Monday night’s $70 million jackpot was won by two entrants. The second winner, who bought their ticket online and lives in Victoria, is yet to claim the $35 million prize.
