Every year the inaugural cup is sponsored by Carpet One, Professionals Lithgow and GB Building to allow kids in non-competitive rugby league to get a taste of what the competitive game is like.
“We all thought this was a good idea because it inspires the kids to dig deep and it doesn’t matter if their team is coming last or leading the competition, they just give it a go,” Carpet One’s Dean Barrie said.
“The amount of sportsmanship that you see on the day is just incredible, all the kids are so talented and to see them just dig in and try their best is what it is about.”
Mr Barrie said that it is a great day for locals who may not get to come and watch each week.
“They can come down, get a pie and just enjoy the day while supporting local kids sport,” he said.
All players who participate will be awarded with participation medals and $20 vouchers from SportsPower Lithgow.
A raffle will also be held on the day with all proceeds going to Lithgow Storm JRLFC.
First prize is a signed and and framed Jarryd Hayne boot donated by Carpet One Lithgow. Second prize is an NRL jersey and size of the winner’s choice from SportsPower Lithgow and third prize is a meat tray from My Butcher On Main.
Raffle tickets can be purchased at Carpet One before Saturday or from people walking around on the day.
Games will kick off at 9am at Tony Luchetti with the raffle being drawn on the day.
There will be a presentation of the participation medals after each game.
Mr Barrie said there is still time for other Lithgow businesses to get involved if they want to.
“It is a bit of short notice but if anyone wants to help get behind us that would be great,” he said.
“It is just local businesses getting behind local sports.”
Lithgow Storm representative Suzie Morris said that the club appreciates the support.
“Lithgow Storm appreciate the day and the support and would like to thank Dean, Craig, Sarah and Rod,” Mrs Morris said.
“It is such a great day and to have all the teams from the under 6’s to 16’s is incredible because it is rare to get all the teams at home so it will be a big day for us.”
