The Mudgee Dragons swept Lithgow last Saturday, recording wins in league tag, under 18s, first division and premier league.

According to Dragons’ stats guru Russell Moriarty, this is the first time his beloved club has achieved the feat since 2016 against Oberon.

“Russell’s the David Middleton of Mudgee,” said club president Jared Robinson.

“It’s been a long time coming and it’s pretty hard to do in such an even competition.

“For us to do that on Saturday, it was a massive effort by the whole club.”

While it’s nothing more than a traditional rivalry, Robinson said it was a little bit sweeter to get the chocolates against the Workies.

“The rivalry has been around for a very long time,” he said.

“It’s a game that both clubs definitely look at during the season and want to win.

“To do it at home in front of a home crowd was special. We made a big deal of making it a successful day for the club so to get all four grades was certainly what we were after.”

Robinson’s premier league side downed Lithgow 22-14 after a clinical opening 40 minutes.

“Our completion rate in the first half was really really good – it was up where we needed it,” Robinson said.

“It was pretty much try-for-try throughout. If there’s any team you don’t want to play in wet weather it’s Lithgow so to be able to grind out a win like that is really pleasing.”

The Dragons will turn their attention to another home game on Sunday against the Oberon Tigers.
