Nathan Doggett, 32, remained in a critical condition on Monday after being hit by a kangaroo while driving near Portland.
Portland Colts coach Darrin Fardell said Mr Doggett was an important member of the team.
“He’s really the glue that keeps the whole thing together,” he said.
On behalf of the club, Kyle Willmot said everyone was sending their best wishes to Mr Doggett and his family for his speedy recovery.
Emergency services were called to Pipers Flat Road at about 7.20pm on Friday after reports of a crash.
Police stated a Holden Commodore was travelling west when it hit a kangaroo, launching it into the windscreen of a Ford Falcon utility travelling east.
Mr Doggett, behind the wheel of the Ford, suffered serious head and facial injuries. He was treated by paramedics and airlifted to Westmead Hospital, where he remains in a critical condition.
The Holden driver, a 19-year-old man, and two female passengers were uninjured.
