People sleeping rough in shop doorways, on footpaths, and even in a small tent in Queen Elizabeth Park; people begging in the street; school kids with no breakfast.

Maybe we’re just catching up with the rest of the world.
Or perhaps it’s really nothing new – it’s just emerged into the open.
According to local support organisations what we’re seeing now is just the more visible tip of a very big social iceberg in Greater Lithgow.
And again no worthwhile government support in the State Budget.
Out of sight and out of mind? Not any more.
The noses know
THAT self cleansing musical public dunny in Cook Plaza might need some human intervention.
Seems it doesn’t really smell like a rose much of the time and is objectionable to the point where visitors to our city are seeking comfort in facilities at nearby businesses.
And this anti social problem doesn’t end at the box; there are now overflows at properties downstream in Main Street Lane and odours regularly wafting wider afield at the whims of the wind.
Pity really; some cynics claim the loo is the most attractive feature of the new look plaza.
Sins of the past
OUR pollies have been proudly spruiking the allocation of more than $21 million for new rail passing loops to speed up freight movement on the section between Lithgow and Blayney.
No mention of the fact that it wouldn’t have been necessary if a previous government in its wisdom some years ago ripped out one set of tracks west of Wallerawang to save on maintenance and left the region with single line working.
Smart that.
More commercials
WHAT is it with some of these Libs wanting to privatise the ABC?
Maybe they’re just addicted to commercials.
Misreading
SURELY we weren’t the coldest place in NSW Saturday night. The TV weather report of a minus seven claim to fame must have been a misreading.
