Lithgow Landcare volunteers completed their last day of planting along Farmers Creek before winter sets in, braving the cold on Thursday to establish shrubbery near Montague Street.

“It’s called infill; we are planting smaller species to improve the general habitat,” Lithgow Council Landcare coordinator Rachelle Fisher said.
“We are trying to create a corridor through the urban area of Lithgow.”
Volunteers were planting, mulching and watering a variety of shrubs including wattles, tea trees and casuarinas.
“They are tough, hardy species,” Ms Fisher said
The shrubs will act as a filter for water heading towards the creek,” she said.
“It will hopefully improve it [water quality] as a filter strip catching sediment and nutrients.”
Landcare volunteers will be getting busy once again in spring, she said.
