At 4.24pm the service received a triple zero call saying bush was alight in the vicinity of Sandford Avenue and Macaulay St.
The two fire crews and NSW Rural Fire Service extinguished the fire. One hectare was burnt but Lithgow Station Officer Noel Ford said it could have been more if not for good conditions.
“Due to favourable conditions it was only a slow burn fire and the brigade was able to get on top and extinguish it,” he said.
“At this stage the cause is being investigated by police, but it is being treated as suspicious, because any fire like that is suspicious.”
