Both Lyell and Lake Wallace were as usual packed with campers and day trippers enjoying what we have to offer. Back in 1983 when Lake Lyell was still a brand new part of our landscape consultants commissioned by Council to investigate tourist potential predicted the waterway would become the most popular in the region.

The gridlock
THERE was plenty of visitor activity in and around Lithgow over Easter and starting from Thursday evening and into Good Friday our food outlets and service stations were busy and supermarkets frantic at times. Just one indication was the report from the State Mine Museum where volunteers had their busiest Saturday in months. “Some were waiting at the gates when we opened then they came in a rush,” spokesman Darrell Cooper said. The downside to the huge regional influx was the problem in getting to a destination then home again. There were delays through Lithgow to and from the Bells Line, and on the Great Western Highway.

Wary of wasps?
EUROPEAN Wasps are everywhere at present, particularly creating an issue for outdoor dining. And not just you and me; the wasps even drive pets away from their food. A correspondent in our sister paper, the Blue Mountains Gazette, claims to have an effective method of fighting back. Place some smelly pet food in a bowl and lace it with flea powder. Then keep your mutt and moggy safely away until the wasps quickly arrive to convey the tasty morsels back to the queen! Yep, let’s make it ‘Be Unkind to Wasps Week’.
