The top-of-the-table clash between Charolais and Loopers lived up to expectations with the teams exchanging blows the entire match. Loopers led 3-2 after two rubbers but from there the teams virtually traded 2-0 results for the remaining singles rubbers to see Charolais go into the doubles with a precious 10-9 edge. Charolais won the first doubles 2-0 to put the match out of reach at 12-9 before Loopers snuck the second 2-1 for a final score of Charolais 13, Loopers 11.
For Charolais, Sean Jenkins returned 4-2, Sharnie Roberts 4-3 and Riza Wiradi 2-4.
Megan Kappos (4-2) was the only Looper to finish in positive territory.
Equal leaders Wrecksavers were favoured to continue their good form against an inconsistent Spinners team but near the midway point it was Spinners who held sway with a commanding 9-2 lead. Wrecksavers found their feet however, and took the last four singles rubbers by a combined eight games to three and then the first doubles 2-0 to see the match suddenly tied at 12-all with only the second doubles remaining. Spinners regrouped just in time, and won both games by the narrowest of margins, 11-9 and 14-12, to snatch the match 14 games to 12.
Malcolm Jeffries (5-2) and Carol Poole (4-2) had best figures for Spinners, while Mark Watchorn dropped three 2-1 decisions for 3-6 but the three single games helped provide the difference between the teams.
Linda Kappos ended the night on 4-3 for Wrecksavers, with Maurie Poole breaking even at 4-4 and Pauline Wellfare going 2-5.
Cellar–dwellers Grippers received the bye, but remain more than a win out of fourth spot.
Pointscore: Charolais 16, Spinners 14, Loopers 13, Wrecksavers 13, Grippers 8.
