NAIDOC week grants
Eligible organisations in the Bathurst Electorate can now apply for grants supporting 2018 NAIDOC Week activities. Grants of up to $3,000 are available to grass roots organisations to run local events marking NAIDOC Week, the annual celebration of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures. NAIDOC Week is a unique opportunity for our communities to come together and recognise the culture, history and achievements of our First Australians and their contributions to this country. I encourage local organisations to apply for grant funding to host events during this NAIDOC Week that celebrate the important place Aboriginal people play in our communities. Grant applications are open now and close Friday, April 20. Visit www.aboriginalaffairs.nsw.gov.au/grants/naidoc-week-grants.

Community heritage grants
The Community Heritage Grants (CHG) program is now open providing grants of up to $15,000 to community organisations such as libraries, archives, museums, genealogical and historical societies, multicultural and Indigenous groups. The grants are provided to assist with the preservation of locally owned, but nationally significant collections of materials that are publicly accessible including artefacts, letters, diaries, maps, photographs, and audio visual material. Applications close 5pm, May 7, visit www.nla.gov.au/chg/guidelines.
Vaccination reaches record levels
New data shows vaccination rates in NSW have soared to their highest level ever with more than 93 per cent of children at five years of age now fully immunised. Under the NSW Liberals & Nationals, we have seen the vaccination rate climb from 87.6 per cent under Labor in 2010, to its highest level ever. NSW now also has the highest vaccination rates in Australia for Aboriginal children at five years of age, at 97 per cent which is a phenomenal achievement. From January 1, children who are unvaccinated due to their parent’s objection to vaccination can no longer be enrolled in preschools and early childhood centres. The NSW Government has committed $22.75 million in 2017-2018 for immunisation programs, including $3.5 million for free flu shots for children aged from six months to five years old. The scientific evidence is overwhelming that vaccination will protect children from serious illness and even death. Leading into what is sure to be another nasty flu season, we urge parents to get their children vaccinated on time to protect them and the wider community and also take advantage of flu vaccination programs opening next month. Opportunities for women in NSW
Women across NSW are set to benefit from a boost to the latest round of the Investing in Women grants program, as the NSW Government doubles the support on offer to $400,000. Applications are now open and I urge organisations, with initiatives that promote pathways to leadership and reduce barriers for women entering their chosen fields, to apply. Along with double the funding for round six of the program, guidelines have been changed to increase the maximum amount available per grant from $25,000 to $100,000. Visit www.women.nsw.gov.au. Applications close on Sunday, April 22.
