The championships will be played over four rounds, Saturday and Sunday and then the following Saturday and Sunday in all three grades and all three should be hotly contested.
The major prize — the club champion is wide open with a number of the low markers in good form in recent weeks.
Saturday’s event was a two ball best ball and the winners were Max Nightingale and Geoff Thompson who made a successful return to golf after a number of weeks out.
The pair finished with 47 points and counted out runners up Damien Marjoram and Peter Haley who also carded 47 points.
Marjoram who could be a dark horse for this year’s championship returned the best round of the day with 41 points and also took out the best scratch score in A grade with a par round 72.
Best scratch score in B grade was Jeff Geddes with 81 while best in C grade was Ben McAndrew on 90.
It was good day in the nearest to the pins for the Cameron’s with Travis picking up two and his father Trevor also grabbing one. The other two went to Brian Judge and Ben Oldfield.
Balls in the ball competition went to teams with 44 points and better.
Friday comp
Winner: Al Glendinning 26 points.
Runner up: Jeff Geddes.
Balls went to Mick Hughes, Brian Giblett and John Chadwick.
Nearest to the pin went to Dave Thompson.
