Lithgow High School’s Joshua Stait's mind-bending sculpture ‘Ways of Seeing (Tribute to John Berger)’ will be shown at Hazelhurst Regional Gallery and Art Centre (February 16-April 15) and the Orange Regional Gallery (August 25-September 23).
He will be joined in the ARTEXPRESS exhibition by Oberon High student Bailey Armstrong, with the painting ‘Family Portrait Studies’ will be shown at The Armory, Sydney Olympic Park (March 13-May 6) and in Orange.
The Lithgow and Oberon students were the only two Western NSW graduates to have their work selected for exhibition in 2018.
ARTEXPRESS 2018 will be officially opened at the Art Gallery of NSW next Wednesday, January 31.
Further individually curated exhibitions follow across the state at galleries in the Sydney metropolitan area, Griffith, Taree, Gosford, Orange, Cowra and Port Macquarie.
“ARTEXPRESS showcases some of the best artworks presented for assessment by HSC Visual Arts students,” Department of Education Secretary Mark Scott said.
“It is a tribute to the creativity, ingenuity, imagination and flair of our emerging young artists and the guidance and motivation provided by dedicated art teachers in our public schools.
“To have an artwork chosen for ARTEXPRESS is an immense honour.
“These artworks will be an inspiration to up-and-coming art students.
“ARTEXPRESS is used by many schools to encourage art students as they prepare for the HSC and show them the amazing standards that our student artists achieve.”
Works in ARTEXPRESS range from painting, photomedia, drawing, printmaking, sculpture, graphic design and documented forms to textiles and fibre, ceramics, time-based forms and collections of works.
