Although conditions were great to play cricket, the number of teams were down this year and a new round robin format took place.
President of the Lithgow District Cricket Associatio, Danny Whitty started proceedings, introducing Leanne Walding of Lithgow Information and Neighborhood Centre (LINC), who spoke about suicide awareness, which has been an issue in the local community.
The A Grade winners were the Powder Puffs, who beat well known team The Norms to get into the final.
In the final they beat the Stephen Hawking School of Dance in an unexpected recovery after being defeated by them in round one.
The final score was Powder Puffs 1/77 with Branan Horner top scoring with 57 not out. He was man of the match with the Stephen Hawking team only managing 6-28 in return.
The Powder Puffs team consisted of Matt Dickson, Brandan Horner, Cody Duncan, Quentin Kidd, Matt MacManus, Kevin Horner and Nathan Mitchel.
The B Grade winners were YGC with 57 who had a good win over Fine Legs who got 37 in reply.
YGC consisted of Blake Caldwell, Brock Barry, Will Hutchinson, Pacey Stockton, Connor Brown, Hayden Wren, Isaiah Wren and Mitch Redding.
Anthony ‘Bones’ Brown was delighted to be asked to present the winnings and trophies over to the winners.
He thanked everyone involved for supporting the day which is helping the local community and keeping Chocko's memory alive.
The day raised $1000 for Lithgow Information and Neighborhood Centre.
All the teams generously donated their winnings back to support the Lithgow Information and Neighborhood Centre, which was greatly appreciated by everyone.
LINC was presented a further $500 donation from Westfund Health Insurance, which was presented by long time staff member and daughter of Brian, Natalie Sharp.
Natalie and Adrian could not thank the Lithgow Cricket Association enough.
“Words can't describe how thankful we are.”
They appreciated the work by President Danny Whitty, Brian 'Red' Slaven and Robyn Whitty who are the ‘backbone’ of making the Brian 'Chocko' Sharp Memorial Charity seven-a-side cricket knockout such an annual success.
Red Slaven said the competition will be back bigger and better in 2018.
Lithgow’s senior cricket competition resumes on Saturday, January 13.
