The NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service (NSW NPWS) joined forces with the Hartley Historic Village Advisory committee to raise funds for the local pipe band.
A bumper raffle organised as part of the Back to Hartley Day raised a staggering $11,000 which was presented to Lithgow Highland Pipe Band representative Ray Burgess on November 13.
Bathurst Electorate MP Paul Toole said the Back to Hartley Day was a celebration of 50 years of National Parks with the historic site at Hartley a hive activity for the big family-friendly event.
“Steve Ring, who manages the Hartley historic site for the Office of Environment and Heritage (NSW NPWS) was a driving force in organising a variety of prizes for the raffle, including the stay at Wolgan Valley,” Mr Toole said.
“The money will now be used by the Lithgow Highland Pipe Band to help buy news uniforms which will ensure they continue to make a striking presence when they perform. It’s community helping community and I think that’s just great.”
Bob Morris, chair of the Hartley Historic Village advisory committee said this year’s event was the best held in the past six years and the atmosphere on the day was “unreal”.
He stressed the pipe band did not receive funding and relied on fundraising events to bolster its coffers which enables it to buy uniforms and equipment.
