The branch raises money to go towards supporting locals who are undergoing or recovering from cancer treatment, and their families.
The sold-out Bogan Bingo held at the Workies on July 15, raised $1,800 just on the night, not including ticket sales which are yet to be calculated.
“Thanks to Vicki Terry Walsh and her team for organising the night,” Can Assist member Margaret Burns said.
Coles also held a barbecue for the branch, raising close to $700 in funds to go towards supporting Lithgow region residents impacted by cancer.
Earlier in the month, construction company Seymour Whyte announced a $5000 donation to the branch, accumulated through barbecues held at the road works on the Great Western Highway.
Telstra has been supplying vouchers to reduce the bills of the branch’s clients.
Can Assist treasurer Ellen Staines said she would also like to thank the employees of Clarence Colliery who have chosen to divert some of their income to the branch, which she said is totalling around $1,500 a month.
The branch has also received donations from the Lions Club, Captured Craft and Team Wozzer.
“Thank you to Cynthia Thornton who has been our events co-ordinator,” Mrs Burns said.
“Cynthia has worked tirelessly to ensure we have had great opportunities for fund raising. Cynthia has decided to stand down but will remain a member.”
Can Assist Lithgow welcomes new members Heather Butler, Chris O’Conell, Carol Woodin, Jan Cullen and Lorraine Titcum.
Meetings are held the first Wednesday of the month, at 4.30pm at the Lithgow Hospital. The next meeting will be held on Wednesday August 9, new members welcome.
The annual AGM will be held on September 13.
