The new and improved shelter facilities are home to a number of surrendered animals that are waiting for their new forever home.
The capacity of the facility has been increased and it is now equipped with heating equipment to keep the animals more comfortable.
Unwanted animals are dropped off in the dog boxes at the front of the shelter and, just over the last month, staff have found four litters of puppies, kittens and plenty of individual animals.
As the Lithgow Mercury took pictures of the animals on site on June 21, yet another dog was dropped off in one of the boxes.
Once they are declared the property of Lithgow City Council, either surrendered or not claimed within a period of time, the pets are offered for adoption.
The Mercury will be featuring the animals available for adoption each week.
