A marble plaque commemorating the Australian and New Zealand soldiers who defended Greece and Macedonia during both World Wars was established in the park a fortnight ago.
Micheal Cuthbert JP, the Honorary Secretary of the Lithgow City RSL Sub-Branch said the sub-branch had been given the plaque by the Greek Government.
“Every RSL sub-branch in the state was to receive one as a present from the Greek Government.
“We have placed it in Lithgow’s most prominent place of honour.”
The sub-branch was given the plaque in October 2016, marking the Greek commemorative celebration, OXI Day on October 28.
On this day, Greece declared its non-compliance with Mussolini’s forces in 1940.
Mr Cuthbert said he was not aware of any local servicemen who had fought on Greek soil.
