Terry Longdon Memorial Trophy April 26 draw: Miscues v Red Sox and at The Workies Helmets v Pockets and Tall Timbres v Jiggers and Outlaws have the bye.
At the end of the second round Tall Timbers proved to be the giant killers when they easily beat the leading team Helmets 6 – 1.
Miscues pulled out all stops on their home turf when they upset Outlaws and Miscues Jack Bilby with his win now is the last not to have a win so no nudie run.
Jiggers moved to the front of the pack when they defeated a shell shock Red Sox.
With 7 weeks remaining of the comp there is only 14 points between first and last positions, exciting times ahead.
Lithgow Valley Storage Helmets v Carpet One Tall Timbers:
Chris Baker had to give Keith Morris a healthy 58 points start and he put up great effort. Baker scored a 17 break and was playing well for both as he also gave Morris about 20 to 30 points in fouls. Morris did play a skilful game as well as he put Baker into the 100 club in winning 114 to 91.
Brett Bradley has won 8 games with 6 in succession and lately has gone off the boil losing his last two and he was up against Frank Wawn who is having a mixed comp. Both started out cautiously trying not to let the other get a break. Bradley though try as he might was letting Wawn dictate the play and that was how the game went when Wawn crept ahead to win 66 – 42.
Dianne Stait had a recent 4 weeks off and came back last week with a vengeance with a win and was looking at Bill Cook to continue her winning ways. Cook was ready for Stait as he himself has been in form winning his last 3 games. It was a scrappy affair to begin with and once both settled down and it turned entertaining. Cook was on song as played some big shots to finally win 57 – 33. Tom Drury has struggled early in the comp and now won his last 2 and looking good was playing Peter Richards who is sadly out of form just with a single win and losing 4 straight and looking at his fifth. Something happened in the last week for Richards as everything he did turned to gold. Drury did play well but could only watch in horror as Richards was frolicking around the table potting all in front of him to win 75 – 38.
Dallas Thurlow played Leon Rust and the result was a low scoring game as not many of the big colours were potted. Rust was his usual rushing around the table having his shots and in position for the next one before the white had stopped rolling. Thurlow did not get out of first gear as he stumbled around as Rust surged to a 46 – 28. Mal Hewitt is finally back on track after an abysmal start to the comp and Maurie Smith is opposite starting out brilliantly with 7 wins and lately fallen into a hole. Good game by both players but it was Hewitt who continued his good form and added to Smith’s bad form to win 51 – 34. Players of the match were Peter Richards and Mal Hewitt.
Hunter Mining Methods Miscues v Exceltech Industrial Electrics Outlaws:
Brian Nightingale who is probably having his worst comp in years played Terry Christian who’s second half of the comp has improved. This was a close game for a while and Christian at the back end came home strongly to win 77 – 57.
Garry Bender was up against Leo Keeley and this was a game Keeley did struggle in as Bender went on a scoring rampage. Keeley made some fundamental errors and Bender took advantage and easily put Keeley to the sword 80 – 25. Matt Tattersall and Justin Nelson had a fairly close game and luckily Tattersall had a 31 start. Nelson to his credit was playing unwell as he did not want to see his team forfeit a game and he almost caught the lead Tattersall had. Tattersall did play well and did enough to come home 64 – 52. Dennis Goodwin played an old Hustlers team mate from years ago in Geoff Horton and it was annihilation from Goodwin.
Horton started out the comp with confidence and was winning games and the last few weeks have hit a slump and Goodwin himself has only had the single win. It was all Goodwin as he put Horton into the 100 club to the tune of 104 – 45. Jack Bilby in his first comp has finally won his first game and his victim was the wily old veteran Harry Wright. Bilby had a 29 start and Wright was catching the youngster and Bilby did not panic he did very well to hold out Wright 66 – 45.
Brian Bonus had a really good tussle with Peter Warner and it really went down to the wire. Warner was chasing all game and hit the lead on the colours and Bonus was making it hard for Warner. It came down to whoever sank the black won the game and in the end Warner was the winner 48 – 36. Players of the match were Dennis Goodwin and Terry Christian.
C & W Printing Red Sox v Welch’s Highway Smash Repairs Jiggers:
Rod Denley who has not won a game for 6 weeks played Dave Adams who has not won in 5 weeks. This was a slow game by 2 players really out of form and it was Denley who played the better game which included a 16 break in his 60 – 47 win. Shannon Baer and Jamie Glencorse played in a marathon game that went for an hour and a half.
Glencorse had a 27 start and Baer was knocking some good pots in early and nearly caught up when he suddenly hit a wall and everything went wrong. Glencorse was not potting well but his safety was good and he suddenly had a turnaround and came home strong to win 79 – 67. John Lyons had to give Kyle Lewis a massive 62 start in their game and he nearly pulled off a good win. Lyons was not holding back the as we was on the attack from the start and was getting some small breaks and he was pulling back the lead quickly. Lewis was only just doing enough to stay ahead and it came down to who ever got the black won the game and unfortunately for Lyons who did all the hard work and it was Lewis who was a lucky victor 89 – 81.
Garry Nolan who has been playing some good snooker played Trent Lewis who has been opposite in not playing well. Nolan again was playing well but this time Lewis finally got his game together and he maintained the lead to win 92 – 73 in only his second win for the comp. Claudio Crosara was playing only his third game of the comp and he has had 2 wins so far and he up against Wayne Lewis who has only lost 1 game in 9 at the moment and is in good form. Crosara did play well only to see Lewis play even better and when Lewis scored 2 breaks of 12 and 14 it was enough to take the game 61 – 41.
Tom Gaynor is struggling so far with just the single win and he was playing Ian Bulkeley who has only lost one. Gaynor had a 20 start and was utilising this well and Bulkeley made inroads with a 15 break and was chasing down Gaynor. It came down to the black to get the winner and when Bulkeley made a mistake Gaynor potted it to scrape home 76 – 73. Players of the match were Jamie Glencorse and Tom Gaynor.
