This year, current councillor and costume queen, Maree Statham is going above and beyond her previous Ironfest appearances.
Ms Statham, who is well known for her sartorial nous, told the Lithgow Mercury she has organised not one, but three different outfits to reveal over the Ironfest weekend.
According to Ms Statham, the dress she is wearing to the Ironfest Ball on Friday, April 21, is going to be particularly extravagant.
“Well, I usually go for Victorian era style dresses that are feminine and classic,” Ms Statham said.
“However, the ball dress is going to be a big surprise. I’ve never worn anything quite like it. I’m going to need a bit of courage.”
Ms Statham has given the Lithgow Mercury permission to reveal one of her Ironfest outfits, all of which are sponsored and designed by Gallery Serpentine in Sydney.
Stephanie Calkin, owner and designer at Gallery Serpentine, said the gown’s style was drawn from the French revolution period.
“It has inspirational references to Marie Antoinette. It’s kind of very fairy tale, I imagine it for a strong female character. Someone who is bold and brave.”
The dress’ design includes a full steel bone corset.
Ms Calkin encouraged anyone attending the festival to dress ‘deliberately’.
“It doesn’t matter where your costume comes from, just be a part of it. The festival just sets your imagination on fire.”
Ironfest spectators will just have to hold their breath to see the two other incredible creations Cr Statham will be modelling.
“When it come to Ironfest people can wear anything at all,” Cr Statham said.
- Maree Statham will be hosting the ‘Fashion from the Fest’ competition from 1.15pm at Ironfest on Saturday, April 22.
