The storms are part of a large system that stretches right across Sydney down towards Wollongong, north into the Central Coast and across the Central West.
The Bureau of Meteorology warns that severe thunderstorms are still possible this evening, while the main threat of damage had eased.
The situation is being closely monitored by the bureau, with further warnings to be issued if necessary.
The predictions for Wednesday are cloudy with a very high chance of showers and it is likely there will be another thunderstorm.
In severe thunderstorms, the State Emergency Service advises that people should unplug computers and appliances; avoid using the phone during the storm; stay indoors away from windows, and keep children and pets indoors as well.
