The Wallerawang community will gather today to farewell Danny, 60, who passed away peacefully at his Wallerawang home on March 11.
A much-loved figure, Danny will be remembered for his dedication to his family, his love of sports and his ability to inspire those around him.
Speaking on behalf of his family, Danny’s son Ty said he came through some hard times and, along with his wife Janice, worked to instill strong family values in his two sons, his brothers and sister. Danny’s father passed away in 1979, followed by his mother’s passing in 1981, and Danny became the head of the family, caring for his much younger brothers Michael and Jock and his sister Leasley as well as his own two sons.
Danny worked on the railway and in mining and dedicated his time outside work to family and sporting clubs.
"If there was a game going on, he’d want to be involved,” Ty said.
Danny coached the Lithgow Workmen’s Club reserve grade and served as club president. He coached the Wallerawang juniors for seven years, the Wallerawang seniors for two years and acted as the team trainer for many more. He bowled with the Wallerawang Bowling Club pennants team and played cricket for the Wallerawang-Lidsdale cricket club.
Andrew Ward from the Wallerawang Warriors said Danny had a remarkable ability to pass on knowledge and would be very missed.
A service will be held at Sacred Heart Catholic Church on March 17 at 11am.
