The NBN tower is proposed on the corner of the Great Western Highway and Browns Gap Road.
Local residents impacted by the development were sent a letter from Council on December 23, seeking comments by January 9, which was extended to January 16. The letter did not include any site details.
The Hartley District Progress Association did go to Lithgow to find out more and were able to send a response to Council about the DA before the cut off period.
In the letter the HDPA said it would like to see the community consulted on the tower’s placement and what the NBN will mean for residents including who will be covered.
HDPA president Renzo Benedet said residents had been in the dark about how the tower’s location was decided and its impact.
“We do need improved communications. Lets find the best way for that to occur.”
Mr Benedet said the HPDA would like to see a meeting held in Hartley where locals can be briefed.
An NBN spokesperson said that it is Lithgow Council’s responsibility to consult with the community.
“There are a number of considerations when planning for a fixed wireless network, as we seek to strike a balance between providing reliable broadband service to the local area and minimising impact.”
