Every night, whenever there’s a clear sky, Dennis McMurtrie sits, watches and waits.

Armed with a small camera, Dennis scopes out the atmosphere for signs of extraterrestrial life, something he’s done for three years.
Over that time, Dennis has started up a website, www.turtleifo.com, and a YouTube channel, documenting images, videos and impressions of UFOs he’s seen flying over the Lithgow area.
A former carpet-layer who is now retired, Dennis recently moved to a new house in South Bowenfels which gives him a prime view of the region and what may fly above it.
Dennis describes “diamonds” of different shapes and colours flying all over Lithgow almost every night.
“I’ve taken an interest in UFOs for thirty years… This whole thing started with spirituality but UFOs tended to creep into the subject,” he said.
Dennis said an encounter where more than five UFOs floated over his head three years ago was the catalyst for him pursuing and documenting the phenomenon, rather than just taking an interest.
“If I’ve got a clear sky, I’ve never missed seeing them.”
Dennis is hoping a world leader, singling out Russian President Vladimir Putin or the current head of the Catholic Church Pope Francis, will one day tell us all the truth.
“We don’t like to admit we’ve been conned, and we’ve been conned by the CIA, the FBI, everybody, right, they don’t want us to know about UFOs.”
Dennis claims he’s been abducted many times.
“I have missing time, strange things have happened to me.”
He’s not wary of sceptics, either.
“I’m not afraid to come out and talk to anyone because your truth is your truth, and what you experience is your truth.”
His advice for others who may seek their truth is simple: Go out and have a look.
“Go out on dusk with a cup of coffee and a chair… If you can stay out of direct light from your neighbour… If you can see the stars you’ll see what I’m seeing.”
“It’s coming on summer… It’s live, there’s no ads and you get to see stuff you've never seen before in your life.”
When asked if he had heard of the Breakthrough Listen Initiative, the recently-launched research program aimed at finding evidence of aliens with the help of NASA and the Parkes Observatory, he had a few choice words.
“That’s just a waste of time… If you wanna see them, come out tonight and I’ll show ‘em to you.”
“NASA: Never a Straight Answer.”
