Workies went into the Lithgow hockey A-grade men’s grand final against Hornets as overwhelming favourites after accounting for Hornets 5-nil in the major-semi.

Hornets stepped up defensively shutting down Workies quick young forwards by not allowing them any room in attack.
The first half was a real arm wrestle with Workies threatening and Hornets stoic in defence.
Just before halftime the game threatened to erupt after Workies Jake Lewis was felled in a dangerous tackle and taken to hospital heavily concussed leaving Workies furious over the lack of action taken while the score remained nil-all at the break.
A half time dressing down by veterans Blocker Roach and Dean Webb saw Workies return to their running and quick passing game immediately gaining them a penalty corner. After the keeper’s initial stop Taylor Dolbel swooped to flick the ball into the net. With Workies back in attack they delivered a devastating 10 minutes for the Hornets team with Greg Nelson scoring a hat trick in a man of the match performance, sealing the win for Workies 4-nil.
