Brand New Highway Patrol cars on Regional Roads:
The Local Chifley Area Command has received one of 28 new Highway Patrol vehicles rolled out in NSW in a bid to crack down on dangerous drivers and help towards achieving a zero road toll.
The vehicles are funded through the Community Road Safety Fund where speed and red light cameras fines go.
These funds go directly back into important road safety initiatives such as high visibility police enforcement.
The new high visibility vehicles are being deployed to key crash hotspots on major routes and highways across the state.
We’ve lost more than 280 people on our roads so far this year because of speed related crashes.
This is an investment into greater safety for our community and additional resources for our Traffic and Highway Patrol officers.
We are seeing an increase in fatal crashes right across the state, and in particular on regional roads. To address this spike, many of these vehicles will be rolled out to the bush, particularly on highways leading in and out of Sydney.
Of the 28 new vehicles, 14 have already been delivered and are on the road in Bathurst, Wagga Wagga, Tamworth, Armidale, Tweed, Dubbo, Byron Bay, Grafton, the Hunter, Nowra, Goulburn, Gundagai, Albury and Lismore. The remaining 14 vehicles will be delivered progressively by next year.
Drivers who continue to disobey the law while families are torn apart by loss of life on the road will have no excuse when they are caught – irresponsible behaviour will not be tolerated on NSW roads.
Speeding kills and now those who flout the law have another 28 reasons to think twice about their driving behaviour or risk being caught.
The new Highway Patrol fleet will include seven brand new 4WD vehicles which will be used further afield on regional roads, where standard highway patrol vehicles cannot go.
Fish Facts on the Go with new FishSmart NSW App:
The latest fishing news and information is now at our fingertips with the NSW Department of Primary Industries (DPI) ‘FishSmart NSW’ app available to download.
The new app provides fishers with a range of data including bag and size limits, fishing safety and useful guides for reporting illegal fishing in NSW.
With some fantastic waterways in the electorate and NSW, we want to ensure people are best equipped to enjoy this fantastic recreational activity.
The app also includes weather, tides, moon phases, barometric pressure and other key fishing data, as well as regional fishing rules and a pictorial guide to identify NSW fish species.
Long Weekend / School Holidays:
With the kids on a break from school, and a long weekend, this period is one that sees an increased number of vehicles on our roads.
Please be aware of speed limits, driving conditions and ensure adequate stops and rests are taken.
Much of our region has been inundated with flood waters of late so it’s also a timely reminder not to cross or enter floodwaters. For emergency help in floods and storms, phone the SES on 132500.
