Sam has recently come back from competing all over South Africa as captain of the Australian U17s hockey team in the School Sport Australia International Hockey Tour.
Playing a number of games against international teams, Sam spoke truth to his position earning player of the match in several games and Australian Player of the Tournament.
One match was even played in the middle of a rainstorm and all games were fought with conviction by Australia despite not coming out on top in the end.
Alongside his team he travelled to a number of destinations in South Africa when not on the turf including Robben Island where Nelson Mandela was imprisoned for nearly two decades.
Listing his accomplishments for someone his age is staggering but he’s humble and hopes to take the game further into the future.
“I’ll give it a shot for sure,” he said, speaking to the Lithgow Mercury on if he’d like to be a professional athlete.
Sam has been playing since he was three and said his reason for loving the game was simple.
“I always liked all sport really just for the fact it keeps you fit.” he said.
“Hockey was just the one that came naturally I guess.”
