A 47-year-old woman from Thornleigh was transported to Westmead Hospital on Monday after colliding head-on with a semi-trailer on the Great Western Highway at Mt Lambie. The driver was travelling west at 6.30pm when she is reported to have attempted to overtake another vehicle before colliding with an eastbound semi-trailer that was carrying 600 bales of hay. Emergency services arrived at the scene shortly afterward where the driver remained trapped for a short period of time throughout which traffic was affected in both lanes. The woman was freed and airlifted to Westmead Hospital in a serious condition suffering leg fractures, chest, head and other internal injuries. The male truck driver was given a breath test at the scene which proved negative and was taken to Lithgow Hospital for blood and urine testing. Eastbound traffic was diverted for a period of time following the crash.
