AERIAL drone photography has revealed the new and improved Black Bridge in Wallerawang nearing the end of the major construction phase.
Today’s image show both the new and old bridges that will exist side by side until the latter of the two is demolished on January 23 and 24.
Following the demolition, further traffic diversions will be implemented for three to four weeks at the beginning of February to finalise the construction of the eastern approaches of Main Street, Wallerawang and Barton Avenue.
The new Black Bridge is scheduled to open today and represents a significant improvement over the previous bridge that has been the subject of controversy for decades.
The construction of the rail overbridge substructure began in May and was completed last week by Abergeldie Complex Infrastructure for a total cost of $3.5 million.
Varied traffic conditions will be implemented over the coming months with detours available through Cary Street-Oxley Street for Tweedie Street and Daintree Lane- Brays Lane for Pipers Flat Road.
The current detours will be reimplemented at this time to ensure that all bridge approaches are constructed appropriately and as swiftly as possible.
