COMMUNITY partnerships are blossoming at Cullen Bullen Public School with the Lithgow Men’s Shed making very generous contributions to the school community.
Over the course of this year, the Lithgow Men’s Shed has been working in partnership with the school to construct a new cubby house for the students.
The men built the components of the cubby house off site in their Lithgow workshop and assembled the cubby on site, on November 10 and 11, ready for the students to enjoy.
The students are now enjoying playing families and shops, as well as making cups of tea and toast for each other.
“This new addition to our school playground really provides an enhanced opportunity for the younger students to engage in engaging imaginative play-based learning activities during recess and lunch.
“This is another enriching opportunity that helps to develop the students’ social skills and communication,” principal Michelle Gallop said.
To accompany this stunning addition to the playground, the men also built and donated tables and chairs with chess and draughts set, as well as a colourful table with bench seats.
“I love playing chess during recess and lunch, the new table and chairs are so cool,” Year 2 student Kye Morris said.
The generous men from the Lithgow Men’s Shed also restored a component of the commemorative mining arch at the front of the school.
This arch was originally designed by the Cullen Bullen school students and community to commemorate the Centenary of Federation of Australia in 2001.
The men have done an outstanding job restoring this aspect of the school’s history, which was unfortunately damaged during last year’s heavy snow event.
The newly restored miners’ cart will now stand the test of time for the appreciation of visitors and the community into the future.
The students and staff of Cullen Bullen Public School thank the Lithgow Men’s Shed for their very generous contributions towards making the school an even greater place to be.
