THE sun shone warmly on the Lithgow City Women’s Bowling Club’s 61st birthday with a good field of bowlers coming from several clubs.
After months of playing bowls in the wind, rain and low temperatures, it was a welcome relief for the birthday celebrations to be played in such beautiful conditions.
The birthday event was sponsored by Centennial Coal with their representative Sondra Muir on hand to present the winning trophies.
After a good day’s bowling and a tasty luncheon, the birthday cake was cut with the honours going to Western Districts’ president Jean Wilds, Lithgow bowls president Kerri Bernard and club patron Shirley Addison.
Prizes were then presented by Sondra and Club Lithgow president Dave Benjamin to the winning away team and home team.
The winning away team came from the Bathurst Majellan Club with the team consisting of Merle Stephens, Pauline Clark and Marjorie Nyland who played some excellent bowls throughout the day.
The Majellan members are good supporters of bowls in Lithgow and it was good to see them enjoying their visit.
The home team winners consisted of Carolyn Lord, Inga Irvine and Shirley Addison who also combined well for the win.
Spiders were won by Pam Johnson, April Preston and Lynne Bulkeley.
Mrs Bernard thanked all those who had participated in the day, especially those who had travelled to take part in the event along with Centennial Coal for their continued support and to all those who helped to make the day the success it was.
It is a busy month for the Lithgow Club with the club staging their annual Higgins Day this coming Tuesday and bowlers throughout the district and other clubs are welcome to play in this popular event.
Bowlers are to be at the club by 9.30 for morning tea with bowls to start at approximately 10am.
