Mr Read is a horticulturist, Landscape Architect, Lecturer at the University of Western Sydney and Heritage Officer with NSW Heritage Office.
The July meeting featured a power point presentation given by Mr Read detailing the life and work of Paul Sorenson who was noted for his garden designs.
Of particular interest were the stories of Everglades Leura and the historic Lidsdale house as well as Hoskins Church Grounds.
Lithgow mayor Maree Statham was present for the meeting as was Member for Bathurst Paul Toole who was honoured to become the club's first patron.
President Barry Lawson presented Mr Toole with a certificate of appreciation and thanked him for his interest in the L club.
Cold weather prevented members from having a ramble for July so a trivia afternoon was held at Zig Zag Motel Restuarant.
Members spent afternoon asking and answering plenty of garden questions provided by John Collett and President Barry Lawson.
A delightful meal was served by Michael Inzitari and his staff, with Mr Inzitari also providing a great selection of prizes.
The occasion was thoroughly enjoyed by all who attended with lots of lively chatter and laughter filling the restaurant all afternoon.
The club's August meeting was also a success with guest speaker Libby Bleakley taking to the stage.
Ms Bleakley is a former police officer and is now project manager for the East Timor Learning Centre for Youth.
