The Bracey name was a byword among Lithgow shoppers for well over a century, operating over a wide range of commercial activity in the Lithgow CBD.
The family operated the most enduing, and last, department store as well as being involved in separate hardware, liquor and garden centre functions at various times as well as the Ford motor dealership.
It was a much lamented loss for Lithgow when the fourth generation of the family to be involved in the business, David and Gordon Bracey, opted for retirement.
The main department store was purchased by the Dimmeys chain while the former hardware centre remains an important furniture and electrical outlet now in the hands of Harvey Norman.
The Bracey Lookout on the northern ridge of the Hassans Walls Reserve was created many years ago but with the passing of time had fallen into a state of neglect.
Lithgow Council has over recent times carried out a major refurbishment program to bring the lookout up to a high modern standard, worthy of both the community and the family name it honours.
David and Gordon Bracey were guests of honor at a brief, and cold, late afternoon dedication ceremony and expressed pleasure at what has been achieved.
