WITH only seconds left on the clock, young dynamo Katie Wilkins smashed a short corner into the goals only to see the ball rise centimetres above the backboard with the umpire disallowing the goal that would have made it 2-1 and a win for Zig Zag.

Instead they had to settle for a draw.
It was another courageous effort by Zig Zag who conceded a goal in the opening minutes to Bathurst St Patricks’ Kath Messer following a good individual effort.
“It was a good draw in the end for the girls as Bathurst St Pats came to Lithgow unbeaten,” coach Laurin Shirt said.
“They did not drop their heads after the early goal and continued to apply pressure on the visitors.
“We are still finding our feet with a number of newcomers coming into the side and we are improving at each outing.”
Once again goalie Kim Northey showed her brilliance keeping the score down to one by making some great saves.
Millie Leard scored the equaliser when she took on the goalie who stopped her first shot at goal, but Leard dragged the ball back and around the goalie and slotted it home for a good goal.
As time run out it was all Zig Zag who consider themselves unlucky not to have registered their first win.
Best for Ziggies were Kim Northey, Millie Leard, Katie Wilkins, Keely Hunter and Katie Young who made her first appearance with the side this year.
Her defence and speed were a real bonus to the Zig Zag side.
Veterans Christine Stapleton, Sam Hill and Tracey Baker also worked hard and were inspirational to the younger players.
The draw was a good preparation going into this Saturday’s local derby against the unbeaten Lithgow Workies Panthers.
The good thing for the club is that they had three reserves along with a couple of other players unavailable for the match.
The match will get under way at the Lithgow Hockey Complex at 1.30pm in what should be a top match.
