This weekend will see the start of the Waratah State League Division 1 basketball competition with the Lithgow Lazers looking to go one better than last year when they were runners-up.

They were edged out of the title by one point, and the loss only made them keener to do better in 2015.

On Saturday night, Lithgow will travel to Dubbo to play the Dubbo Rams at 5pm and then return to Lithgow the next day where they will play the Queanbeyan Yowies at the Barton Street Stadium at noon.

“It is a tough opening draw for us, but we are looking forward to it,” co-coach Paul Fenton said.

“We have been training well and will again be very competitive with the majority of players being local.”

The team will consist of Kurt Northey, Michael Cox, Adam Marjoram, John Fenton, Levi Roberts, Keiran Osborne, Joss Wholohan, Ryley Hughes, Matt Hughes and Ben Newham from last year and joining the side for 2015 are Nathan Akamarmoi, Blake Edwards, and Caleb Fitzpatrick.

Coaches are Adam Marjoram, Paul Fenton and assistant Scott Simcoe.

The Lazers will again be depending on their excellent crowd support to help them to a win.

Noon, Sunday at the Barton Street Stadium — be there for all the action.
