THE first game was played between Jeff Howden and Joseph Smith.
Early ends saw both bowlers hold the lead with four shots being the biggest margin. With the scores level on 13-all and then 17-all it was Smith who made the break. He led 21-17 before Howden got to 21-20. Howden then levelled on 23-all before hitting the front. It looked game over for Smith when he trailed 30-23 but he hung in to get to 30-28 before Howden won 31-28.
