Both attend Lithgow St Patrick’s Primary School and have excelled at the highest of levels in a number of sports for their school.
At the state championships, Kyra will be contesting the shot put event while Mackenzie will be throwing the discus.
Kyra and Mackenzie won their way to the championships after excellent efforts at their school carnival that qualified them for the Polding regional carnival where they again excelled.
They then continued on to the Eastern Diocesan Polding at Newcastle where they qualified for the state championships.
The girls will be up against athletes from Catholic, state and private schools with the cream of athletes on show.
They will join local athletes Zane Harrington and Rosa Lyons-Ross (Lithgow Primary), Luke and Lochie Thompson (Cooerwull) and Connor Higgins (Wang) at the championships.
The five have already been featured in an earlier Lithgow Mercury.
Kyra is the daughter of Peter Phillips and Michelle Sharp while Mackenzie’s parents are Jodie and Glen.
