Vixens dedicated their win to long term Workies player, official, coach and good friend Nerryl Wood who lost her brave battle with cancer earlier this year.
In memory of her dedication and love for Workies netball, the Workies teams and their supporters wore pink ribbons in their hair in respect for Nerryl.
The speed and teamwork of Vixens was evident from the start with long term captain and the driving force for Vixens’ Suzy Morris leading by example and encouraging her side to better things.
Morris has been the dominant factor over a decade or so in Workies’ dominance of netball having played with a number of Workies premiership sides and is still one of Lithgow’s best.
Vixens had strength all over the court with the experience of Renee Scheurer and the Manton sisters Rebecca and Jessica and young Bethany Flynn causing all sorts of trouble.
It has been a whirlwind start for young Bethany Flynn in her first division career who came into this grade last year and has now two titles to her name.
Abigail Northey was strong and never gave Wang any peace with her strong defence, her performance earning her the Player of the Grand Final that was judged by the scorers and timekeepers.
Vixens jumped to a good lead by half time at 19-6 and never let Wang into the game although they tried hard all match.
Wang’s Tori McCarten, Leanne Hawley and Leanne Houlison worked hard to stem the tide, but the shooting of Lisa Hemmy, Bonnie Sutherland and Suzy Morris was accurate from all around the circle.
At the other end Wang’s Jillian Wheeler had limited opportunities, but shot well when points were on offer.
Her battle with Nadine Cousins was worth watching while in the middle, Vixens Rebecca and Jessica Manton worked well together with Wang’s Katlyn Barnes and Beth Thurlow showing good skills.
Although the result was lop-sided, the big crowd enjoyed the match with the umpires contributing to the spectacle.
The Wang 1 team who enjoyed a good season consisted of Katlyn Barnes, Brooke Cornwell, Jo Cornwell, Leanne Houlison, Tori McCarten, Beth Thurlow, Hannah Thurlow and Jillian Wheeler.
A big thanks goes to the umpires, scorers and timekeepers who handled the match in a highly professional way.
The junior presentation was held on grand final day, while the senior presentation will take place tonight at the Grand Central Hotel.
